February 02, 2010 - Bank of America Provides Grant to Center For SiouxlandA check presentation was held at 11 a.m.today at Center For Siouxland. Bank of America representatives Scott Berghaus, Regional Market Manager and Monique Scarlett, Community Bank Executive presented a check for $30,000 to Russ Wermers, Center For Siouxland’s Board Chair. The donation will be used for operating support to enable the agency to continue providing an array of programs in Siouxland such as Consumer Credit Counseling, HUD Certified Comprehensive Housing Counseling, Bridges West Transitional Housing for the homeless, Client Trust, 2-1-1 Center, a pantry, utility and prescription assistance and the RSVP program.

read more of this news article December 17, 2009 - Daily Grind Gathers Food DonationsJeanne Zyzda owner of the Daily Grind announces that in celebration of the businesses 18th anniversary on Thursday, December 17, they will offer a 10% discount on any drink purchased for customers that bring in an item to donate to Center For Siouxland’s food pantry. Items that are needed include: canned fruits, vegetables and juices, pastas and sauces, pancake mix and syrup and peanut butter and jelly. A complete list of needed items is posted at the Daily Grind which has been a drop off point for donations throughout the month.
Jeanne states, “I am celebrating 18 years of serving great coffee to Siouxland and I am conducting this promotion as a way of giving back.” The Daily Grind is located at 511 4th St. and has a location at WIT. Center For Siouxland is a local non-profit that has been helping individuals in the community since 1975. The agency offers an array of vital services including Consumer Credit Counseling, utility and prescription assistance, a food pantry, client trust, housing counseling, 2-1-1 center, the retired and senior volunteer program and transitional housing for the homeless. Center For Siouxland is located at 715 Douglas St.
November 10, 2009 - Scottish Rite Awards Grant to Center For SiouxlandGeorge Harrison representing the Sioux City Scottish Rite made a check presentation to Center For Siouxland’s Board of Directors on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at noon at Center For Siouxland located at 715 Douglas St. Scottish Rite awarded Center For Siouxland $1,200 to be used for installing automatic door openers for the agency’s front doors.
Russ Wermers, Board Chair, states, “We are truly thankful to the Scottish Rite for helping cover the financing of this project and without their donation we could not undertake such an improvement to our facility.” The cost to complete the entire project is $5,000 and the agency is accepting donations to defray the remaining expense.
read more of this news article October 23, 2009 - Tax Volunteers Are Needed to Provide Free Income Tax Filing AssistanceJoin the more than 32,000 volunteers nationwide in the AARP Tax-Aide program. Volunteering with the AARP Tax-Aide program promises to be one of the most engaging and challenging activities you will ever undertake. In a recent survey, 96 percent of AARP Tax-Aide volunteers were satisfied with their experience. Many stay with the program year after year - many for more than 15 years. Free tax preparation and assistance services are provided to millions of low- and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention to those ages 60 and older. Electronic filing and online counseling are also offered by the program. Volunteers must be 55 years of age, free certified tax training will be provided in December and January. Flexible volunteer hours are available February through mid-April. Tax services are provided at Center For Siouxland and Moville Senior Center. Computer assistance is available for Volunteers. October 22, 2009 - Donors to the Center For Siouxland Pantry Will be HonoredAccording to Feeding America, “One in eight Americans does not have access to enough food.” Local food pantries help meet that need and are reliant on donations. Donors to the Center For Siouxland pantry will be honored at a recognition event on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 8:30 a.m. at Morningside Lutheran Church.
